Consistent and effective documentation practices are the cornerstone of collections management. We strongly believe that access to suitable standards compliant tools to support these practices should not be limited to organisations with significant resources. Therefore, PARRIIC has developed a series of open source, digital documentation tools that anyone can use and customise for free, or which we can tailor to your specific needs.
The principle: to provide tools that run entirely in the browser from a single compiled HTML file. No installation, no server, no account, no internet. Designed for volunteer-run archives, community history projects, and any institution needing low-barrier, standards-conformant documentation.
How it works: Each tool is basically a HTML form that can export the completed data to various human and machine readable formats. The tools are designed to be customised. Fields can be configured to autofill or only allow controlled vocabularies, whether for general organisational or specific project use cases. This supports staff and volunteers and ensures key metadata is correctly entered. The tools are designed to function in multiple operating languages and for export functions to be appended or removed as desired. All the source files can be downloaded from GitHub.
